Apple to Challenge Existing Players in Smart Home with Face ID-Enabled Doorbell Camera. Apple reportedly makes significant efforts to conquer the smart home market in a move that will take shape in late 2025, when it aims to launch a Face ID-enabled smart doorbell according to Bloomberg Mark Gurman. As of now, this new device may prove as a serious competitor from Amazon Ring and Google Nest.

The smart doorbell camera reportedly has face ID capabilities, which unlock doors automatically due to the recognition of users. Apple developed a custom-made wireless networking chip that Apple branded Proxima which it claimed processes all the images relating to Fcae ID on the device alone.

In addition, the firm will give users iCloud backup to their data on the doorbells; therefore, users can easily keep their footage safe in exchange for probably increasing subscriptions revenue for the company.

Apple hasn't said if it will bundle the doorbell with its smart lock system or partner with third-party smart lock makers compatible with HomeKit. But the device will reportedly support the Thread smart home standard further integrating Apple's growing smart home ecosystem.

Expanding the Smart Home Lineup

Apart from this smart doorbell, Apple is also creating a smart home hub that more or less resembles Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Hub. The chatter suggests that it will house a 6-inch screen with the custom operating system-Apple Intelligence for Home control and FaceTime to get going on.
