Pakistan’s NADRA to Launch Facial Recognition Feature in Pak-ID App. The National Database and Registration Authority has introduced its facial recognition verification service through it is Park-ID mobile application and registration centers all over the country starting from 15 January 2025. 

This project aims at modernizing the biometric and identity verification process. A consultative conference at NADRA headquarters brought regulators and officials together from all walks of life to deliberate upon improvements in the system.

Challenges in identity verification, making necessary measures to streamline the provision of services to citizens topped their discussions. The difficulties at which the pensioners with very faint fingerprints along elderly citizens are facing under the present system prompted NADRA Chairman.

He emphasized the necessity for innovative solutions and upgrading the system to solve these problems. Facial recognition technology was largely embraced, and participants were on the same page about how it could improve service access and reduce delays.

He was of the view that to be more convenient the facility will be available not only in centres but also through the Pak-ID app. This conference considered the usage of iris recognition technology for verifying identity purposes, keeping in view all its benefits and challenges.
